Music Therapy Education and Training
Music therapists are required to complete an accredited degree program which includes courses in music therapy, music, and the behavioral/health sciences. While taking courses, upper division students perform supervised music therapy fieldwork in schools and community programs. Following completion of academic coursework, music therapists must complete clinical training from an approved program before sitting for the national board certification exam. The Certification Board for Music Therapists then grants the MT-BC (Music Therapist- Board Certified) credential to those who successfully pass the exam.
